TCO's
Position on Private Water |
|
 |
| We are fortunate to have
miles of public access with incredible fly
fishing, including many streams with wild
trout and historical significance. We prefer
to fish & guide these waters and we
work very hard to continue to improve these
special resources as well as work with various
organizations and conservation groups to
protect and secure additional public access
for future generations. |
|
 |
| Land
ownership is part of the fabric of
our society and these rights were
described by our founding fathers.
Many of us own land and, in some way,
exercise our right to that use our
land or home with some degree of control
and privacy. As much as we wish every
mile of our natural resources were
open to public access, the fact is
some are owned and posted by land
owners. On western waters, land ownership
is generally respected however it's
a much more emotional issue on eastern
waters where a growing percentage
of the water we've all grown up fishing
is now posted. |
|
|
 |
| TCO respects the rights
of landowners to manage the property they
own as they deem appropriate, although we
always hope they share the natural resources
that we hold so precious. We do have clients
that enjoy fishing private water, typically
to experience the solitude that private
water often provides. We have been asked
often by clients to describe our position
on private water including what access do
we offer, how it is accessed and many times
we are asked why we offer it. |
|
 |
| Our position
is as follows:
|
|
 |
| TCO prefers to fish and
guide clients on the miles of quality water
that is open to everyone. TCO does offer
guide services to clients who wish to fish
on private water. We will only guide on
water that is open to anyone and everyone
to access, subject to the landowner's trespass
fee. In other words, we do not guide on
water that is exclusively held and not accessible
to the general public through some means.
TCO's position is not perfect, however we
have drawn the line not on whether a fee
is paid but instead whether access is generally
available to anyone wishing to pay the landowner's
trespass fee. |
|
 |
| As always, we remain committed
to working with organizations and conservation
groups to protect and secure additional
public access and we'd welcome your help
in those efforts. Please check our Links
of Interest page for conservation groups
that we actively support. |
