| Ask fly fishing professionals
if they ever hire local guides when they
travel to fish and you may be surprised
by their answers. "I wouldn't fish unfamiliar
water without them!" or "That's an integral
part of my adventure planning, finding the
right guide for me." Another seasoned, well-traveled
guide said, "I just don't have that much
time to fish so I want the time I do have
on the water to be as productive as possible.
A wizened old guide once told me, 'You gotta'
fish where the fish is! A good local guide
knows where the fish is!" |
|
 |
| "There's a safety factor
when I'm going to be chest deep in strange
water" says another. " A local fishing guide
knows where the wading is dicey due to fierce
hydraulics, dam releases, recent rough weather,
etc. Even if I've been there before, I still
get a guide the first day because nobody
knows better than I do how the river profile
can change in a year." A surprising answer
came from a guide with over 30 years of
experience. " I always learn something new
from my guides, new ties, techniques or
just new jokes and fish stories. I even
got some inventive lunch ideas on one trip.
The guide called it Thanksgiving on the
Run. It was a turkey and stuffing sandwich
with cranberry chutney on fresh whole grain
bread. Now that was worth the guide price
right there!" |
