We asked some of our TCO guides to tell
us what a client can do to prepare to
make the most of the experience. Here
are a few of their suggestions:
1. LIGHT READING. Take time to read the
extensive printed and on-line documentation
TCO provides including what to bring,
what to expect, hatches you could see,
etc.
2. BE ON TIME. Trips are typically scheduled
to hit the most productive fishing hours.
Being there at the agreed upon time sets
the stage for a well planned day.
3. BE PREPARED. Don’t waste the
best hours of your fishing day buying
a license, looking for your gear, etc.
(We always recommend you buy your fishing
license in advance!)
4. LISTEN. Recognize that you have paid
for the expertise of a guide. Take full
advanatage of the investment and do your
best to try the tips & techniques
provided by the guide.
5. ASK QUESTIONS AND ASK FOR HELP. If
you don’t understand what a guide
is saying, tell them so. Ask your guide
to demonstrate or help you accomplish
the technique or concept.
6. BE OPEN. Guides are a wealth of knowledge
about the area and enjoy sharing the history
and lore of their rivers and streams.
Take time to enjoy the passion and experience.
7. IT'S JUST LUNCH. If you have dietary
restrictions, let the guide know in advance.
If you're a little picky, bring your own
food in case. Otherwise, just kick back
& enjoy lunch!
8. DRESS APPROPRIATELY: Inclement weather
happens. Be prepared with good rain gear.
Don't forget to wear undergarments designed
to move moisture away from your body.
A great day fishing can be turned very
uncomfortable if you're freezing cold
and wet.
9. RECOGNIZE YOU’RE IN THE GREAT
OUTDOORS. Toileting can be challenging
so you may need to use Mother Nature’s
facilities. Flushing toilets are rarely
available so be prepared.
10. KEEP YOUR SENSE OF
HUMOR. Fishing isn’t always about
catching. We fly fish in beautiful places,
we're learning, & usually with the
pleasure of great company. So even if
fish or weather don't fully cooperate,
the experience can still be very rewarding
and fun!
