A former Navy pilot,
Bill O'Brien began fly fishing for Pacific
salmon and steelhead in the rivers of
northern California and Oregon in 1976.
For the past 30 years he has fished the
great trout rivers of the West and the
Northeast. Not averse to salt, he makes
regular pilgrimages to Port Everglades
for snook and tarpon fishing. Bill has
been fly fishing Adirondack trout streams
for the past 15 years and has guided for
the Hungry Trout for the past 6 years.
Bill guides the West Branch of the Ausable River
along with countless area rivers and brook trout
streams. Bill is excellent with matching a clients
fly fishing interests to area fly fishing opportunities.
Whether you want to hit the pocket water, fish the slower
glides with dry flys or go deep for the big boys, Bill
can put you in the position to succeed.
His patient, enthusiastic teaching style,
makes Bill one of our most popular guides.
His attention to detail and astute powers
of observation, gleaned from years in
the cockpit significantly increase your
chances of angling success. During the
off-season he teaches fly fishing classes
for the Knowledge Network and is a member
of Frog Hair Pro Staff.
